Agrochemistry scientific journal

by

Agrochemistry is the oldest scientific journal which has been issued at the University of Agriculture in Nitra since 1960 as the monthly for chemization of agriculture with state – wide (in previous Czechoslovak Republic) scope. Originally the editor of the journal was VHJ Slovnaft Bratislava in publishing house of ALFA. In this form the journal of Agrochemistry was published up to the year of 1995 when its publishing has been stopped for one year because of a reorganization of chemical industry and related changes it the journal financing. On the course of this period Agrochemistry was one of the main initiator of development and propagation of plant nutrition and protection chemization in both Czechia and Slovakia. Publishing of Agrochemistry was renewed in year of 1997 by an extra issue at the opportunity of Agrokomplex '97 Exhibition. Since the next year (1998) the journal has been issued regularly 4–times a year. Its revitalization happened particularly owing to the close cooperation between the Department of Agrochemistry and  Plant Nutrition of previous Faculty of Agronomy of SUA Nitra and joint–stock company of Duslo Šaľa which sponsored editing and redaction of the journal. In this period of time the change in the philosophy of the journal also happened as a consequence of the changed societal situation and public awareness.  While in the first phase of journal existence chemization of agriculture was the dominant idea, in the following period old – new journal reacts on the new requirements of time by widening its scientific scope to biological and ecological items ending in the application of integrated procedures in plant nutrition and protection. It was also reflected in the change of journal slogan when original slogan “Journal for chemization of agriculture“ has been replaced by new one:“Journal for rational utilization of agrochemicals in agriculture“. The next considerable change in the history of Agrochemistry journal happened in 2006, when the journal became scientific. The change has widened the space for publishing results derived from the original scientific works of basic and applied research, mainly of the area of development and testing of fertilizers and other agrochemicals efficiency. Besides of agrochemistry topic the papers cover partially also the area of pedology, plant protection, soil microbiology and environment. Redaction committee of the journal consists of experts from academic scientific area and agricultural practice. It has international character and the members of it are academics working in the field of agrochemicals research at the agricultural universities in Prague, Brno (Czech Republic), Krakow and Bydgoszcz (Poland). Such international composition creates potential for wider cooperation among mentioned universities in research, publication and pedagogical area. The contributions in Agrochemistry journal are published in Slovak, Czech or English language. The common publishers are both Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra and Duslo Šaľa, joint–stock company, which is longterm sponsor of the journal publishing. The journal is a part of internationa system AGRIS FAO, by means of which the authors of scientific articles gain valuable foreign responses and citations. Since 2016 it is being published twice a year in printed form and at the same time the complete texts of contributions are at the disposal on web site www.agrochemia.uniag.sk
