AFZ is scientific journal of the Faculty of Agrobiology and Food Resources of Slovak university of Agriculture in Nitra. The journal is the oldest at the university, issued from 1957. AFZ is Open Access – with free Access to the content based on principles free availability of research results for broad public and support of global knowledge exchange. The journal is international, Slovak as well as papers from abroad are published. In 2015 and 2016 papers from Czech republic, Poland, Austria, Russia, Sudan, Hungary, Serbia, Iran, Germany, Japan, Lithuania, Switzerland, Spain, Finland, Greece, Norway, USA and Thailand. All submissions are blind reviewed by two anonymous reviewers from particular research area from Slovakia as well as from abroad. In present volume, 67 % of submissions were accepted after review. Thematically, the journal is traditionally oriented on all branches of animal and plant production, plant and animal biotechnologies, plant and animal genetics, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, food sources processing and veterinary sciences. The journal publishes original scientific papers; short communications and review papers in particular areas. Editorial board members are leading scientific personalities from 8 countries (including Slovakia), well known at home and abroad. AFZ is issued four times a year, indexed in scientific databases Index Copernicus, Directory of Open Access Journals, Directory of Research Journals Indexing, Sherpa/ Romeo, Agricola/ EBSCO, AGRIS of FAO/ OSN as well as Google Scholar. AFZ is member of CrossRef organization, for centralized harvesting of metadata, indexing ease, citing, Access and sharing of scientific papers. In present the journal is under evaluation by SCOPUS/ Elsevier and Web of Science (Thomson Reuters). From the volume 4 of 2011 the journal is issued only electronically and in English. From that period were papers downloaded from the server more than 60.000 times. The Journal is publishing also monothematic issues as occasional publication aside the congresses and conferences. Most successful was issue of ICOAS – Bringing Innovations to Organic Farming in 2015 (more than 10.000 downloads).
