5-day short course „Introduction to graphical models with application to quantitative genetics and genomics“

by

PhD school in Animal and Food Science of the University of Padova (Italy) in collaboration with the Animal Science and Production Association (ASPA) was hosting from 3th to 7th of June 2019 the 5-day short course at the Department of Agronomy, Food Natural Resources, Animals and Environment (DAFNAE) of University of Padova in Italy. Course was organized by prof. Alessio Cecchinato, who invited two exclusive lecturers for theoretical and practical lessons:

Prof. Guilheme J. M. Rosa, University of Wisconsin – Madison

Dr. Francisco Peῆagaricano, University of Florida – Gainesville

Course was aimed to the PhD., Post-Doc as well as associated and senior scientists to adopt methodology of Graphical models – set of data analyses which allow the investigation and representation of interconnected components in complex systems.

Prof. Radovan Kasarda and Dr. Nina Moravčíkova attended the course as part of further progress within the analyses of genomic data under projects APVV-14-0054 and APVV-17-0060. We joined the course as being part of ASD consortium which is aimed not only to organize annual meetings (btw. this year in Prague, CR) as well to share knowledge and collaborate.

In genetics and genomics, graphical models can be used to study recursive and simultaneous relationships among phenotypes, or to investigate gene-phenotype networks. As such the offer new possibilities in interpretation of relationships among variables and new instruments as Bayesian Networks and Structural equation models with impressive illustration of use in quantitative genetics and genomics (MAS, QTL, GWAS).

Final audience consisted of graduated students and professionals from overall the Europe, Mexico and Brazil.
